The Faith of a Generous Woman: A Prophetic Encounter

In the ancient city of Shunem lived a wealthy and kind-hearted woman who loved and honored God. She noticed that the Prophet Elisha often passed by her home on his journeys, so she regularly invited him to stop and eat. Her persistent hospitality created a deep connection with the man of God.
Seeing his consistent visits, the Shunammite woman urged her husband to build a special upper room for Elisha—complete with a bed, table, chair, and lamp—so he could rest whenever he came through. Her generosity was not driven by any personal gain, but out of a heart that respected God’s servant.
Recognizing her selflessness, Elisha sought to reward her. Through his servant Gehazi, he learned that although she had wealth, she had no child—and her husband was old. Elisha then declared a divine promise: “By this time next year, you will hold a son.” Although the woman was initially hesitant to believe it, the prophecy came true. She gave birth to a healthy boy just as Elisha had spoken.

Tragedy Strikes—But Faith Endure
Years passed, and the boy grew. One day, during the harvest, he suddenly cried out to his father, “My head! My head!” He was carried to his mother and tragically died on her lap by noon.
Though devastated, the Shunammite woman acted with faith. She laid her son on the bed in Elisha’s room, shut the door, and went out to find the Prophet. Her husband questioned the urgency of her visit, but her reply was unwavering: “It is well.”
Riding swiftly to Mount Carmel, she reached Elisha. When Gehazi asked if all was well, her only answer was again: “It is well.” But upon reaching Elisha, she fell at his feet in anguish. She reminded him that she never asked for a child and pleaded for his help.

The Power of a Prophet’s Prayer
Elisha sent Gehazi ahead with his staff to lay it on the child, but there was no response. Then Elisha arrived, shut the door, and began to pray. He stretched himself out on the child, mouth to mouth, eyes to eyes, hands to hands. The boy’s body began to warm. Elisha paced and prayed again, repeating the act. Suddenly, the boy sneezed seven times and opened his eyes—alive!

The Prophet called the woman, and as she fell at his feet in worship, he told her to pick up her son. God had performed a miracle of resurrection through His faithful messenger.
CLIMAX:
Elisha entered the room, prayed earnestly, and by God’s power, the dead child was brought back to life.
CONCLUSION:
